Mayor extends thanks for an enjoyable, successful 64th Annual Student Government Day

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to ensure the 64th Annual Donald A. DeLuca Student Government Day was enjoyable and successful for all those who participated.

We are grateful for the Woburn Rotary Club, whose members continued their generous, annual support by hosting a luncheon for students at the Woburn Lodge of Elks.  Special thanks to Janna Mazza, President; and longtime member Art Duffy for making arrangements for this year’s guest speaker Jay Ash, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Thanks also to Rotary members Bill Sullivan, Susan Hartmere, and Dave Crowley, who were key members of the team that pulled together all of the details for the program and lunch.

Thanks also City Clerk William Campbell and Marie Lingblom for their commitment in making the day meaningful for everyone. Thanks also to John Devine, owner of North Suburban Transportation, for providing bus transportation for students.

To all of the Woburn High School students who participated this year, thanks for your genuine interest in municipal government and hard work during the day; thanks to all City and School Department heads for their participation, with special thanks to WMHS English teacher Abby Gillis for coordinating the essay portion of the program. Thanks also to City Council President Richard Haggerty, City Councilors Mike Anderson, Joanne Campbell, Mark Gaffney, Lindsay Higgins, and  Edward Tedesco; School Committee chair Ellen Crowley and School Committee member Michael Mulrenan.  Thanks also to WMHS Principal Jessica Callanan, Superintendent Mark Donovan, and Assistant Superintendent Matt Crowley.

As always, thanks to Richard Jaime for his support in helping to pull everything together on time and in great shape.  And, we remain appreciative of Arlene Friel and Janet Fahey for their continued support of the fine program their father, Donald DeLuca, conceived and launched 64 years ago this year.

Thanks again to everyone who helped ensure the success of this fine Woburn tradition.

Sincerely,

Scott D. Galvin
Mayor
